I Really Need To Have My Head Examined..
Yes, you are looking at my latest wheel. It's a Babe bulky spinner that's custom-built for bulky yarns and add-ins. I received it last night and put it together in 10 minutes, with a few adjustments once Leo got home (he's the handy one with the tools).
I am having some problems with it as it's not like any of the wheels I own, or have spun on. The flyer is heavy and the bobbins (I have three of them) can hold 1 pound of yarn. It's made of PVC and the wheel is made out of a wheelchair wheel. But it's still a wheel, nonetheless. I'll have time to iron out all the issues I'm currently having with it.
I also finished setting three yarns I've spun in the last couple days. This one is called Frenchy. I spun this from a Homestead Wool & Gift farm batt, and some Sheep Shed Studio mill ends I dyed and carded last week. I so want a drum carder now. I can't believe how lofty the yarns come out for spinning!
I'm currently researching a few drum carders but so far, if price weren't an option I would go with a Pat Green Deb Deluxe, but since I'm not exactly setting up a cottage industry out of my garage at the moment, I'm being a bit realistic and setting my sights maybe on a Strauch Finest instead. Although if I were to be even more realistic, a David Howard Brush drum carder is more do-able.
Remember my drop spindle attempt at spinning thick 'n thin yarns like I used to when I first started this obsession? Well, this is "Bikini Bottom I" (yes, it's going to be a series until I GET it...meaning that I let caution and my quest for 'perfection' to the wind and just spin freely), spun from a Crosspatch Creations batt called "White Water" and millspun fiber I dyed last week. Not too bad...
And this one I spun using three test flyers that was sent me last month for a certain wheel I shall not name. It's a sample skein with add-ins that went through two of the delta orifice, while I had to push the add-ins through the third.
So far, I love all of them! But I have to keep on spinning and taking notes. Which means I have to make (and find) other add-ins to really push these flyers even more. This yarn is a bit too tame...
But really, I need to get off my bum and start cleaning the house. But then...I really do keep saying that...

Hooray for a new wheel!!! I think it's amazing what the Babe is made of. Can you believe I'm getting a new wheel as well? I'm getting a Majacraft Suzie Pro arriving at the end of Jan (I hope). I wasn't going to go for one but the price was so good considering the exchange rate now. Love your handspuns...so inspiring and artistic.
frenchy looks like a pink cloud! love your experimenting with different wheels
Congrats on your new wheel! Love the 'new' sqaure look! As always your yarns are inspirational and beautiful!
Hugs,
jamie
A new wheel! Wow, Bee! That is awesome! Definitely bring it with you to guild next time. I've never spun on majacraft but I hear they are awesome - however with all the wheels I currently have, I have to go on a wheel diet as well as a fiber diet. But I'm so happy you got a new wheel! Congratulations!
